Nutrition in aging and dietetics
Lee Mee-Na

Abstract
As the older population continues to expand, professionals in heath care facilities and community programs will be expected to develop nutrition standards and resources to meet the food needs of this age group and to provide constructive advice to help clients solve their food-related problems. At present research exploring nutrient requirements and metabolism in older people has been limited. Nutrient needs in older people are complicated by the presence of chronic disease and physical problems that often require dietary modification. Food selection is made difficult by social, economic, and physiologic factors that interfere with food shopping or meal preparation. It is pointed out that solution to the food-related problems or older people may require compromise between ideal and realistic options.
